Thank you to all PPMC faculty and staff who dedicated time toward helping to coordinate last month’s seventh annual Lancaster Avenue Jazz and Arts Festival. The event was a huge success, with nearly 1,000 guests visiting Saunders Park throughout the day for food, music and fun.
“I have to say what a fantastic event this was. The weather, entertainment line-up, vendor area, children’s activities and informational tables where all simply incredible,” Gary Ginsberg, assistant executive director of Facilities at PPMC, said in an email to staff. “I had a great time. The music was phenomenal, and everyone I saw, spoke to, or witnessed was raving about the event. I can’t wait for next year.”
An article from the Philadelphia Inquirer noted that Philadelphia has seen a recent resurgence in its jazz scene, with events such as the Lancaster Avenue Jazz and Arts Festival and, in May, the second annual Center City Jazz Festival. Noting that Philadelphia was home to jazz legend John Coltrane, the article suggested that “honoring the legacy of Coltrane could be a giant step forward in reviving the city’s rich jazz heritage and boosting its historic and cultural attractions.”
