2013 Philadelphia Science Festival

PSF logo 2013The University of Pennsylvania will celebrate the 3rd Annual Philadelphia Science Festival from Thursday, April 18 through April 28, 2013. Click here for a full list of the activities in which Penn Med’s faculty, students, and staff are spotlighted.

In particular, Penn’s signature event “Big Ideas: Funding and Innovation” featuring NSF Director Subra Suresh, will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 6pm. Participants include Glen Gaulton, Executive Vice Dean and Chief Scientific Officer; ITMAT Director Garret FitzGerald; Chris Hunter, Chair of the Pathobiology Department at Penn Vet; and Jordan Miller, post-doctoral fellow in the SEAS Bioengineering Department. What role does the government play in advancing innovation? How are projects chosen to receive funding? Moderated by one former and one current director of the National Science Foundation, this program will feature researchers who’ve generated some of the most well-known scientific breakthroughs of our time and the role that federal funds continue to play in furthering innovation.
