Competency Assessment in the Real World

Faculty speaker: Donna Wright, RN, MS

July 2, 2012
8:00 am-4:30 pm
Penn Medicine Center for Innovation and Learning
1500 Market Street, 9th Floor, West Tower

This workshop will explore the elements needed to create a successful competency program.  You will learn many creative strategies to the competency process and creative ways to verify competencies in all departments.  We will explore ways to operationalize this every day and ensure compliance. Join us for a humorous look at how to make all this happen and how to create a system that really works.  You won’t believe how easy it can be.

Objectives:

  • Discuss the goal of competency assessment and the driving forces behind the process.
  • Discover how to promote accountability through competency assessment.
  • Identify ways to verify competency assessment.
  • Discuss the success factors that help make competency assessment truly successful.

  • Skilled Care Center Awards Ceremony with the PA Department of Health – July 10

The PA Department of Health is coming to PAH Tuesday July 10, at 2:30 pm, in the Zubrow Auditorium. The PA Secretary of Health, Deputy Secretary for Quality Assurance and Director for Nursing Home Facilities will all be on hand to present the PAH Skilled Care Center with the state’s new Excellence in Health Care Compliance Award.

Only four out of the 713 nursing homes regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health went three years with no state citations on annual health survey inspections, thereby qualifying for the department's new Award for Excellence in Health Care Compliance. The Skilled Care Center at PAH was the one of the four facilities and the only site in Philadelphia to receive the award.

  • Join Team UPHS/PENN for the 32nd Bike MS: City to Shore Ride – September 29

This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the Bike MS City to Shore Ride, in which Team UPHS/Penn will, with your help, be the largest team!  We’re counting on our leadership to keep the momentum going strong and join the team this September 29 & 30, for an even more successful year.  This year’s system-wide goal is to recruit 325 team members and reach a fundraising goal of $135,000.

There is truly an option for everyone - you can choose to participate as a cyclist, a virtual cyclist [if you can’t ride, but want to fundraise], or a volunteer at the team’s Finish Line tent. The 2011 team of 283 members, qualified for the highly-coveted finish line tent and won 5 awards: Largest Overall Team, Largest Corporate Team, Top Fund Raising Team, the $100,000 Club, and the Millennium Circle Team.

Each person who raises the minimum $300 receives a customized team jersey to wear during the ride and access to the finish line tent with plenty of food & giveaways.  Don’t forget about our annual UPHS/Penn pasta dinner right before the ride.  Below, you will find more information about how you can ride with the UPHS/PENN team.

  • Click below to register as a team member and when prompted, be sure to indicate the UPHS/PennTeam:  https://secure3.convio.net/nmss/site/TRR/Bike/PAEBikeEvents/1516897932?pg=ptype&fr_id=17956
  • You can promote the ‘teamcard’ discount and save $10 off registration until 7/31.
  • Complete the attached UPHS/PENN waiver, including your jersey size by July 15th (or complete a survey monkey which will follow once you register).  The waiver is required in order to receive your free team jersey.
