Elizabeth Gallagher selected December Lab Services Employee of the Month

Elizabeth “Betsy” Gallagher has been a Medical Technologist in the PAH Blood Bank for 18 years. Her duties include testing and cross-matching blood samples, amongst others. Betsy was nominated for Employee of the Month by Lisa Szczuplak, also a member of the Blood Bank for six months.

The following is what Lisa wrote in her nomination for Betsy:

"Elizabeth Gallagher, or "Betsy" as we all know her, has allowed me to have an easy transition into Pennsylvania Hospital’s blood banking lab. Her dedication and passion for this job inspires me. Betsy pays close attention to every detail, an important factor when it comes to saving patient's lives. She is quick on her feet…and is a wonderful asset to the lab. She also provides excellent instructions to the students of the Medical Technology program as they rotate through our section of the laboratories. Patience and friendliness are two of Betsy's wonderful qualities that have helped the students – as well as me – understand the work-flow and other aspects of the Blood Bank.  Ever since I started, I always see her hard at work no matter what bench she has been assigned. Her constructive criticism has made me a better Blood Banker and only pushes me to want to be the best I can be and to improve patient safety and provide excellent care. I feel that the December's Employee of the Month should possess characteristics such as commitment and passion for one's job and an ability to calmly and warmly interact with others. Betsy possesses all of these and many more that enhance the performance of the Blood Bank."
