On September 1, the Abramson Cancer Center welcomed a new director: Chi Van Dang, MD, PhD. Dang comes to Penn from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
At John’s Hopkins, Dang’s laboratory contributed to the understanding of the function of the MYC cancer gene, which has emerged as a central transcription factor – or gene switch – in many different human cancers.
Born in Saigon, Viet Nam, Dang came to this country in 1967. He graduated with highest honors from the University of Michigan in 1975 and three years later earned his PhD degree with distinction in chemistry from Georgetown University. He received his MD degree from Johns Hopkins University, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
