When the Laboratory Services Shared Governance committee sat down to select their June employee of the month one of the many names considered was Arsenio Mendoza of Environmental Services. In his short time cleaning the lab on 7 Preston, his impact has been tremendous.
Arsenio's strategic approach to cleaning-- organizing long-term cleaning and then moving room to room-- has dramatically improved the appearance of the Laboratory. He is meticulous and works diligently to ensure his areas are spotless. Arsenio has even been known to lie on the floor and scrape away decades of wax build-up! Staff consistently comment on the quality of his work and the pride he takes in his cleaning ability. He is an utmost professional who is kind, courteous and a true pleasure to work with.
In lieu of making him employee of the month, the lab established a new award to periodically recognize individuals in other disciplines/departments who go above and beyond to make a difference in the laboratory, awarding them the title Honorary Lab Employee. An honorary lab employee is someone from outside the lab who is key to improvement efforts in patient care, patient safety, patient satisfaction, laboratory operations or the laboratory environment. The group felt very strongly that Arsenio should be recognized and rewarded for his hard work, and that this provided an excellent opportunity to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and show their appreciation.
Congratulations to Arsenio Mendoza, the first Honorary Lab Employee! Environmental Services is extremely proud of Arsenio for being the catalyst for this new award, and the Laboratory is very happy to have Arsenio as a member of their team.
