Penn Presbyterian friends, staff and supporters joined in an evening of Caribbean fun, fare and philanthropy at the Independence Seaport Museum on Friday, March 5, for the hospital’s 9th Annual fundraiser, An Evening on the High Seas.
As more than 200 guests stepped into the pirate-themed party, they assumed humorous pseudonyms, donned baubles and pirate hooks, and received temporary tattoos from a creative make-up artist. Throughout the night, exotic birds, a palm reader and a steel drum band entertained attendees, as they noshed on Caribbean fare and imbibed on the signature “grog.” The silent auction attracted attention, thanks to generous donations from local jewelers, artists, restaurants and companies.
“The event was fun, everyone had a really good time,” said event organizer Lori Gustave, PPMC Assistant Executive Director for Business Development. “The organizing committee went above and beyond in making our creative ideas come to life.” Committee members included Lori Gustave, Linda Scott, Tess Lee, Kim Grube, Gary Ginsberg and Pam Furches. Event producer Michelle DiVeterano went above and beyond to make ideas come to life.
Proceeds from the event surpassed expectations, earning more than $46, 000 to go towards improving the patient experience at PPMC.
“Department directors stepped up big time, and were personally able to bring in $30,000 in sponsorships and donations,” said Gustave.
The funds may pave the way for a new volunteer coordinator who would work with Patient and Guest Services, staff and volunteers to cultivate volunteer programs intended to improve the patient experience at PPMC. This proposal is under review awaiting approval.
Thanks to the dedicated staff and generous friends of Penn Presbyterian, An Evening on the High Seas was a delightful success.
